E100 Reading 4 – Never Again Genesis 8:1 – 9:17

God can wash away the sin in our lives with water (Baptism of water), cleansing, which floods our life, if we allow Him to do great works in us.  it takes time for the flood waters to recede, will we see the tops of our cleansed life, the tops of our spiritual mountains. Noah sent out a dove in search of dry land, maybe that’s what we need to do, our dove could be prayer and our deeper searching for the spiritual land God as for us. It took time for the dove to find dry land, so sometimes we need patience when seeking God.

“After the rain stopped,Noah sent out a dove and it returned with an olive branch (now the symbol of peace) so that Noah knew the waters were receeding and land could be found”

The new covenant with Noah is like when we give our hearts to Christ, we make a new covenant with God and if we listen and obey God’s word we will be blessed and all our needs will be met.

Were they free from the stench of sin? did the flood wipe the slate clean?, as we read on further through the bible, the answer was a very definate ‘No’.

Noahs first reaction to reaching dry land was not to party but to worship the Lord (Genesis 8:12,22). This hints at one of the great themes of the bible – the need to sacrifice as a way of seeking forgiveness from sin. This helps us understand the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. God knows that it is in human nature to be sinful and understands the reality of sin, but God still makes a covenant with Noah and never again will He completely destroy them (Genesis 8:21, 9:11,15) and gives a rainbow as a symbol of his love for us.

And soon He would show His love in person.
