Why We Work

Ephesians 6:5-9

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.

And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

In a recent story I read in a daily devotional it told the following story :

“There was a building architect commissioned to redesign a cathedral. One day he went to the site to inspect how the work was going on the cathedral. As he was walking around the cathedral, none of the workers recognized who he was. He stopped and asked one of the workers what he was doing? His reply – “I am cutting a piece of stone”, he went and asked the same question to another worker, reply – “I’m earning 5 shillings a day”, and then he went and asked a third worker, reply – “I’m helping an architect build a magnificent cathedral to the glory of God”

Ephesians 6:6-7

New International Version (NIV)

Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people,

The highest motivation in our lives should be founded on our devotion to God and to do His will, not to satisfy a pay check or a supervisor. And being grateful to perform the task the lord has given us.

Bless Ya.
